Rich servings of TCC AgConnect experiences have been enjoyed by our students recently, with the promise of more to come for the rest of term.
Students welcomed Mr Martin Pentecost, Managing Director of Grow Agribusiness & Finance, to discuss the emerging trends relating to opportunities and career pathways within the agricultural sector. Mr Pentecost offered some current strategies pertaining to the acquisition and management of farming assets, and shared through his own life experiences where a passion within the agricultural industry can lead to if you are willing to put yourself out there.
Within his presentation were some valuable life lessons and messages; never forget where you came from, always be humble and kind, be the person using the shovel – not the one leaning on it, love what you do and do what you love, learn to work - work to learn, and attitude equals altitude. His passion for Agribusiness was contagious. We’re looking forward to welcoming Mr Pentecost back to TCC in 2025.
Our relationship with Teys Australia, Lakes Creek Beef Processing continues to grow with our Senior AgConnect students experiencing a very rare and unique opportunity to tour the plant. Students were carefully prepared for this immersive experience to fully benefit from engaging with such a key player in the agricultural industry. Rockhampton’s Facility General Manager, Mr Stephen Thomson, and his team of Livestock, HR and WHS Managers, and Quality Assurance and Quality Control Personnel, generously gave their time to discuss the valuable insights into the quality of Australia's locally produced beef and toured with the students through all areas of the impressive processing plant.
Not only did the tour incorporate the day-to-day processes of the paddock-to-plate production, it showcased the many national and international career opportunities available throughout the community-minded business. Throughout Teys Australia, a magnitude of occupations and leadership positions exist throughout their feedlots, beef processing plants, food manufacturing facilities, hide processing sites and centralised distribution facilities.
Community spirit, the power of networking, engaging in experiences and working hard was highlighted as successful character attributes to develop.
Thank-you Teys Australia for offering this incredible, unforgettable, and life changing opportunity for our students with a keen interest in the Agricultural industry.
It was a delight to welcome Ms Heather Wallen, Queensland Human Resources Manager of Costa to the College for an in-class session. Costa is the largest citrus grower in Australia and acquired Central Queensland’s 2PH farms, more widely known for its delicious mandarins. Ms Wallen shared with us the latest technology Costa is using in the form of drones and robotics to improve production and streamline processes. Ms Wallen informed us of the scope of Costa, their international markets and her role within it in recruiting staff domestically and across other nations. Students asked questions and were intrigued with the large-scale operation and how it services global markets from Central Queensland farms.
The opportunities for our TCC AgConnect students continue with a full range of experiences outlined for the remainder of the term. Please visit the link to check out upcoming Connections.
