Senior School

At The Cathedral College the Senior School encompasses Year 10, 11 and 12. In Year 10, students are able to sample subjects on offer in Year 11 and 12 in order to make informed decisions about their course of study in Year 11 and 12.

In addition, Year 10 students create their own individual Student Education and Training (SET) plan which helps them organise and monitor their learning throughout their senior years. When devising a plan of study, there is a clear expectation that all students will be eligible to be awarded the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Students are provided with multiple pathways including the tertiary entrance pathway and the vocational education and training (VET) pathway.

For the twelve-to-tertiary (TTT) entrance, students must study at least 20 semester units of Authority subjects over two years including three Authority subjects studied over four Semesters. In addition, they must sit for the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test to be eligible for an Overall Position (OP).

When students complete Year 12, the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority will issue the following:

  • Tertiary Entrance Statement (OP eligible students only)
  • Senior Statement (levels of achievement attained in all subjects; result of QCS Test where      applicable)
  • Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) if the student has fulfilled the minimum requirements
  • (Students studying an individualised program will receive a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement  -QCIA)
  • Certificates (where applicable).

For students who choose vocational education and training (VET) certificate courses and school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, the QCAA links the three education sectors: (1) the school (2) the vocational education and training sector and (3) the higher education sector. Students are able to enter the workforce, TAFE/University with nationally recognised qualifications as well as their Queensland Certificate of Education.
