We would be interested in offering work experience to the interested student for a block period only (not 1 day a week), for a minimum of 3 and 5 days as this really gives them and us a good indication if they like the position and are suitable.  

 

AFP Directions Program: The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are currently recruiting for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pathway – The Directions Program.

The Directions Program is a full-time employment and development program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The program is an integral part of ensuring the AFP workforce reflects the Australian public we serve. As part of the program participants will complete a number of formal work rotations, providing exposure to the wide variety of work at the AFP. Participants will also attain a nationally recognised qualification, supporting them to excel in their new AFP career.

Positions are primarily Canberra based and often requires participants to relocate. Moving away from family, friends and community can be challenging and a range of support is available from the Directions Program team, The Malunggang Indigenous Officers Network, Mentors and Buddies.

Participants are eligible to apply for the program if they are:

  • 18 years or older at the commencement of the program, and
  • Can confirm through the provision of relevant documentation they are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Successful applicants will be motivated team players seeking to commence in a professional role with the AFP. Ideal applicants will: 

  • have effective communication skills
  • be able to think outside the ‘box’
  • have experience using basic IT, and
  • show a demonstrated willingness to learn 

No formal work experience or pre requisite qualifications are required to apply.

Elders Stock and Station Trainee Program - various locations across Australia: The Elders Trainee Program has been specifically designed to provide hands-on training to the next generation of stock and station agents in the livestock and wool industry.

Over the course of 18-months, we provide the tools and training to ensure our trainees can launch their careers at Elders through diverse experiences, mentoring, and opportunities to network with industry leaders at face-to-face workshops. Upon completion, trainees have a broad understanding of Elders, the agency and the agricultural industry with the opportunity to apply for permanent roles.

As an MRAEL apprentice you will be appointed a Field Officer who will guide you through your trade, making sure every aspect of your training experience is rewarding and professional. The Field Officer provides you with consistent mentoring, support and performance management throughout your apprenticeship while ensuring you progress through your training and will coordinate block bookings when necessary. The Field Officer will have regular meetings to discuss your progression and any challenges you may have.

The Apprenticeship

Are you a good problem solver, have a natural talent for maths and enjoy working with your hands? An Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration apprentice could be the challenge and variety you’re looking for!

Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to become a qualified Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic and earn your Cert III in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration.
