Senior School and Careers

The Year 11 and 12 students had the opportunity to discuss various tertiary pathway and career options with representatives from a number of University, TAFE and Training organisations last week. On Tuesday 9 March members from James Cook University visited the College, students visited the Capricorn Careers Expo at the CQUniversity Sports Complex on Wednesday 10 May, and representatives from the University of Queensland and Raymont College addressed the students on Thursday 11 May.  All of these experiences enabled our students to have their questions answered about the various courses and diplomas available, entrance requirements, perquisite subjects, application processes, accommodation options and course fees by industry professionals. The countless career pathways that are available to our students was certainly showcased on all occasions.

Student Expressions of Interest close on Friday 19 May for the 36th annual Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO) held in Brisbane on 15-16 July. Year 11 and 12 students must register their interest on the link emailed to them from Miss Watson in Term 1 and again last week. Please see this link for more information about the TSXPO. The cost of the trip will be advised once student interest is gauged.

Thérèse Eddy (Head of Duchesne College) will be visiting Rockhampton on Thursday 20 July 2017. There will be an information session for parents and students at Rockhampton Grammar School (time is yet to be confirmed). This is a general presentation that focuses on all the accommodation options at the University of Queensland. Thérèse will discuss issues that arise at UQ, QUT and ACU, as well as addressing why they no longer have the ability to take students that may want to go to Griffith University. Thérèse will discuss any concerns regarding attending a Residential College and would be extremely pleased to take the opportunity to speak with your son/daughter about the academic and social challenges that they may encounter. Year 12 students considering tertiary study in 2018 would be encouraged to attend the information session. Thérèse is also going to speak to our students interested in accommodation options at Duchesne College on Friday 21st July from 10.55am-11.35am.

Year 12 QCS Practice Test results

Year 12 OP students have received the results of the Practice Test which was conducted on 20 and 21 February.

It is important to note that students had not had the benefit of explicit QCS test readiness at the time they sat the test.  Results should be used to inform them of areas of weakness and to spend more time in developing their skills in those areas.

Students should also be working through practice tasks from the ”Pathways to Success” text that they have been supplied with.  Those activities should be part of their individual study schedule.
